SENDAI -Towards a Disaster-Resilient and Environmentally-Friendly City

Target 7 Creation of Opportunities to Access Early Warning Systems, and Disaster Risk Information and Evaluation Priorities for Action

We have created hazard maps that include information about how people can protect themselves from disasters for the areas that are likely to be damaged by floods from rivers and inland waters, sediment disasters and tsunamis. These have been distributed to citizens and made public online.

Additionally, to aid citizens evacuating as needed in times of disaster, we send out disaster information using tools such as a tsunami information transmission system, e-mail, the internet, and using media such as the TV and radio as appropriate, and encourage people to check disaster and weather information. Additionally, as well as publicity vehicles and fire trucks circulating the relevant areas and conveying information, if a large-scale, widespread disaster occurs, helicopters will also convey information from the sky as necessary. In FY 2016, we are continuing to work so that citizens receive faster and more accurate evacuation information by unifying the administration of disaster information tools.
