The 8th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) took place in Geneva, Switzerland from June 2 to 6, 2025.

Sponsored by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), this international conference united world DRR leaders, with the purpose of promoting the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, a world-guideline for DRR.

Since 2007, seven sessions of the Global Platforms have taken place, and this time as the 8th session, over 3,000 participants from 164 countries were brought together under the theme of “Every Day Counts, Act for Resilience Today”.

As an attendee from the City of Sendai, Vice Mayor Takahashi shared initiatives from the City on building a Disaster-Resilient and Environmentally-Friendly City during multiple panels throughout the conference.

At a preparatory meeting at the Multi-stakeholder Forum, Sendai introduced international outreach regarding DRR initiatives from the City, utilizing the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments Online Platform (SFVC).
Through two sessions focused on strengthening resilience within small and medium-sized businesses and the SFVC, the City’s DRR initiatives, in cooperation with multiple stakeholders, with a focus towards promotion of the Sendai Framework including the Sendai Symposium for DRR and the Future.

At the Ignite Stage, we introduced the BOSAI-Tech initiative. Following, in cooperation with the Cabinet of Japan and the UNDRR, the “Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction Conference” was announced to take place in Sendai in 2027, and attendees from around the world have been encouraged for their future participation.
