The 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) was held in Manila, the Philippines from October 14 to 18, 2024.
This conference is held by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, as known as UNDRR, with the object of discussing the initiatives of implementation of the Sendai Framework and the progress of DRR countermeasures in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The APMCDRR 2024 was held in a hybrid format with both in-person and online attendance under the working theme of “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction,” and over 5000 participants attended the event.
Mayor Kohri took the platform as a representative of the city in a plenary session and addressed the world about the importance local governments initiatives involving various stakeholders, in addition to sharing our efforts of build a Disaster-Resilient and Environmentally-Friendly City through attending multiple programs, such as the World Tsunami Museum Conference and the Ignite Stage.
Moreover, Sendai City’s initiatives to share information related to our DRR experiences and lessons learned from a disaster were heralded, and Sendai City was recognized as the first MCR2030 Hub in Japan by the UNDRR at a certificate ceremony held during the October 17 plenary session attended by Mayor Kohri.
